About Bunky

What does Bunky do?

Bunky matches people with roommates based on personality and lifestyle, not only budget. Each profile shows photos, answers to prompts, dealbreakers, a move-in date and a budget, so you can tell early whether you would get along.

Chats only open when both people are interested, through a mutual like or an accepted chat request. College students match with other students at their own school, and in New York City anyone moving to the city can search for roommates.

How did Bunky start?

Bunky started at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, where its two founders met in the dorms as students. They tested the first version with students at Arizona State University before opening it to more schools.

Today Bunky has communities at 800+ US colleges, 200K+ people have used it, and New York City is its first city for off-campus roommate search.

Why we built it

We saw firsthand how much the right roommate shapes your college experience. The people you live with can become your closest friends and make a new school feel like home.

We built Bunky to give more students that chance: to find people they will actually enjoy college with, before they ever move in.

What have people said about Bunky?

The San Luis Obispo Tribune wrote: “Early Bunky users said the app has been helpful in connecting them with potential roommates.” A student quoted in the Los Altos Town Crier said: “I feel like people our age would definitely use the app and benefit from it.”
